With gold and platinum albums, the R&B band, Midnight Star, created a memorable sound. Formed in 1976 at Kentucky State University by Reggie Calloway, a Woodward High School graduate, and Bill Simmons, they enlisted fellow students, Belinda Lipscomb, Kenneth Gant, Jeff Cooper, Boaz Watson, Melvin Gentry and later added Dana Mattison and Vincent Calloway.
